Tomorrow night at Book Soup, Hugh Hefner will make a rare personal appearance to sign Mr. Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream, a biography written by Steven Watts with considerable input from Hefner. Both will be available to sign the book.
Book Soup is a treasure, as I have said on these pages before, more than once. I was just there on Saturday night and picked up the latest edition of the Complete Peanuts collection, the tome with the strips from 1969 and 1970.
Other Playboy books available at Book Soup include the collections of Playboy centerfolds from Chronicle Books. One is a massive 11 x 23 inches, 2 1/2 inches thick, comes with its own carrying case and will set you back $500. The other one is 6 x 13 inches and a more-affordable $50. Both start with the first centerfold, Marilyn Monroe, and the big book goes straight through to Miss December 2006, Kia Drayton. The little one adds the Playmates of 2007, up to Sasckya Porto, Miss December 2007.
Book Soup is at 8818 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, down the street from Hustler Hollywood and across Sunset from the old Tower Records. There is a small lot behind the store that fills up quickly and a large pay lot across the street on Sunset that used to be the Tower Records satellite lot.
The signing starts at 7 p.m.
