SYDNEY — An Australian psychologist was recently charged with indecency because he forced his female patient to wear a dog collar and call him "master."
Bruce Beaton, the psychologist in question, pleaded "not guilty" and insisted that his actions were within a psychologist's ethical guidelines.
The Australian Associated Press reported that police, who had been secretly videotaping the sessions, heard whipping sounds and bolted in for the arrest.
Beaton claimed that his actions were a "last resort" for treatment of a bulimic patient with whom other methods had failed. He felt that forcing the patient to wear a collar and engage in a master-servant relationship would build "a more trusting relationship."
"It is right within the ethical guidelines," Beaton said. "I am not saying it would be all right if I hit her. I did not hit her."
The trial continues.
